Creator of the SIMPLICITY™ EMR
Dr. K. J. Lee, creator of the SIMPLICITY™ EMR and co-founder of the company, is an accomplished surgeon, educator, health policy expert, author and inventor. He is the past president of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and currently serves as Associate Clinical Professor at Yale University and HSR Emeritus Chief of Otolaryngology. An internationally renowned lecturer on otolaryngology, health policy and health information technology, one of his 25 books, Essential Otolaryngology, is regarded as one of the most widely read texts in the world in its field. The book's hallmark is its ease of use and the fact it encompasses more germane information than many books put together, combining usability with comprehensiveness. Dr. Lee envisioned that EMR should be web-based, extremely user friendly yet robust enough to analyze data, and be designed to work the way doctors work and think the way doctors think. It has to be a hybrid of "digitization and image preservation". It has to combine usability and functionality; and functionality should not be achieved at the expense of usability. He believes that another recent strategy by large companies to make patients gather and input medical records into an EMR is wrong. The right strategy is to have a product where medical information is input and cataloged by a medical provider and is easily retrievable by medical providers and the patient with proper authorization. After years of development and refinement, Dr. Lee is pleased to introduce SIMPLICITY™: the first powerful and truly user-friendly EMR that was designed by a doctor to mimic the way doctors actually work.
He has served as a health policy adviser to sitting U.S. Senators, members of Congress and Presidential candidates, and is a leading authority on the development of practice guidelines which will be the benchmark for physician compensation. Dr. Lee’s pioneering use of computer technology goes back to 1967 when, as an otolaryngology resident at Harvard, he was one of the first people to use the Harvard Computer Center to do a surgical outcome study.
